My Little Pony characters Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty

After A Decade on Air, My Little Pony Will Introduce A Lesbian Couple as Characters, Written by LGBTQ Woman

The cartoon television world is getting more inclusive for LGBTQ people.

My Little Pony, a popular cartoon, has been on air for a decade. It is going to air its first episode ever, “The Last Crusade,” introducing a lesbian couple this weekend.

Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty are two female ponies that are the guardians of the school-age character Scootaloo. The episode and characters were written by Nicole Dubuc, who is also gay. The episode will air on Discovery Family this weekend according to Comics Beat. The episode has already aired in Europe.

The couple was also included in a My Little Pony book published in 2017 and fans wanted them included in the show.

“Nicole and I thought this was a great opportunity to organically introduce an LGBTQ couple in the series, and we asked Hasbro and they approved it,” Vogel told Buzzfeed News.

Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty are not background characters either. They play strong roles in the episode and Michael Vogel, a writer/producer for My Little Pony and former vice president of development for Hasbro, confirmed their relationship via Twitter.

“I think it’s fantastic that we can show that what truly defines a family is love — that, to me, is the core of My Little Pony,” Dubuc said.

My Little Pony is the second TV show in recent weeks to include LGBTQ themes in their episodes.

The season 22 premiere of the kids’ animated series “Arthur” aired in May with an episode showing Mr. Ratburn, the third-grade teacher, marrying his male partner.
