Adviser for Virginia GOP Senate Nominee Has Ridiculed Black Cities, Rosa Parks, Barack Obama and John Lewis

Rick Shaftan, a top campaign consultant for Republican Virginia Senate nominee Corey Stewart, has continually made racist remarks on social media, most recently calling a majority-Black city a “s—hole,” which is the same term President Trump used to refer to African nations.

“The word #S—hole is an appropriate one to describe this particular s—hole,” Shaftan remarked in a January tweet about Baltimore.

In a 2014 tweet uncovered by CNN, Stewart said:

“There are a lot of parallels between the ‘House Negro’ and the GOP Establishment.”

The following year, he used “House Negro,” a 19th-century term that references an enslaved Black person who worked inside the house instead of in the field, again, this time referencing former President Barack Obama.

“Notice how Obama calls the speaker ‘John’ like he’s a plantation owner talking to Malcolm X’s House Negro,” Shaftan wrote.

In a Facebook post in 2017, he wrote:

“Black ‘leaders’ are working overtime to isolate ‘the community’ from everyone who isn’t Black. And almost no Black people will say anything for fear of being labeled an #UncleTom #Oreo #HouseNegro.”

Shaftan has also insulted civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.).

He said, “so what has John Lewis done besides get beat up 50+ years ago #PompousAss.”

In addition, the GOP consultant tried to belittle civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

He tweeted in 2015, “Rose Parks. Give me a effing break. How about PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY”

Phyllis Schlafly is a mid-20th century conservative activist who opposed the feminist movement.

In another tweet, Shaftan called Lewis and fellow civil rights activists who marched in Selma, Ala., “Bloody Selma Demons.”

The Republican National Committee has yet to give its endorsement of Shaftan’s boss Stewart. Stewart, who is running against former vice president candidate Tim Kaine, is a staunch defender of the Confederate monuments.

Apparently, Shaftan is not the only racist working for Stewart. Brian Landrum, yet another staffer for Stewart’s campaign, participated in a month-long group chat with people planning the next white-supremacist Unite the Right rally.

His buddy Shaftan came to his defense stating that Landrum was added to the Facebook group without realizing it.

Stewart is currently trailing behind Kaine by 14.5 points.
