Viral Video Sparks Debate on Racial Disparities in How Police Use Force

A video of a white man yelling at a white cop, without physical consequences, has more than 1 million views.

Botham Jean, Jemel Roberson and Emantic Bradford Jr. were all minding their own business, not mouthing off, and they were shot dead by police. Sandra Bland questioned an officer and wound up dead in a jail cell.

So when a video of an unidentified white man spewing expletives at an officer, throwing his license at the officer, and threatening to kill the officer, without any physical consequences, started circulating on Twitter, it went viral with more than 1 million views this week.

People of color on Twitter commented that had it been them in the video, they would've had bullets in the chest by the time the truck passed:

There are studies that well document how Blacks have been treated differently by police. In the case traffic stops, whites were 57 percent more likely to be spoken to with respectful language, whereas Black drivers were 61 percent more likely to experience an exchange that was the least respectful. Officers language with the least respect included calling people, "dude, bro, boss, man, brotha, sista or chief".

FBI data found that U.S. police kill Black people at disproportionate rates: Black people accounted for 31 percent of police killing victims in 2012, even though they made up just 13 percent of the U.S. population. And 62.7 percent of unarmed people killed by police are Black.

Yet racists, and some conservatives believe the treatment is deserved because Blacks did something wrong.

For example, in Orlando's International Airport in August, a white male Trump supporter tackled to the ground by police for being a disruptive passenger knew his privilege, when he said, "You're being rough with me. You're f***ing treating me like a Black person."

Reader Question: How does the video of the white man berating the white officer make you feel?

This type of behavior by whites to police officers happens daily in every state. A young black man picked up a toy rifle in walmart and was shot to death by police because a white man said he was pointing the gun at customers. That man lied and he was not fined or jailed. In another Walmart case two drunk white brothers went in the store with guns, shot up the store and threatened customers and employees. The police were called and they were carried off to jail after the police took their guns. There are thousands of these stories and very seldom does the white man get murdered by the police.

We as black people are not shocked by this behavior of whites because most of their illness is call cognitive dissonance. Check out the book by Dr. Joy Degruy it's titled: Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome...The anger we feel and the self destruction stem from continued slavery, ever fluent and subliminal as it is today. It's there, the haunting of evil that's holding back the life of humanity...our skin just has more carbon than theirs lol. That white privilege is the breath of them all, just ask them to trade places.

This has been happening forever, and this is yet just another example. Everyone single person knows this to be true, those who are racist just won't admit it.

White folks and cops know this to be true but why should they care it doesn't affect them in a negative way, hell that's the American way they've always used cop's and their system of injustice to target and either murder or lock down black people.they have created hundreds of laws over the last hundred plus years to force black folks back into the free labor pool on their plantations and prisons vagrancy laws after slavery put millions of black people back on the very same plantations in which they were freed from to be worked from sunrise to sunset under the watchful eye of their former masters.America is the land in which I live she will never be my home, as there has never been love or trust between us. I am a displaced person in the land of my birth I will never have that red white and blue pride in my heart for her. I will always be a Black man living in America.
