SherriffSusie Tag Teams With Apartment Manager to Profile A Black Man at His Own Pool

Social media video justice continues to out racists, this time in Indianapolis. Shane Holland, a resident of River Crossing Apartments, presented his key fob after being confronted by the apartment manager, Candice Clingerman, who knew him, and an off-duty police officer who had asked him to leave.

The key fob was snatched from him, Clingerman denied knowing he lived there and he was accused of jumping the fence to use the pool.

Alex Stokely, vice president of Barrett & Stokely, which manages Holland’s apartment building, said this week that Clingerman had been suspended, and the officer was on the premises for an incident of trespassers a few days ago. Barrett & Stokely manages 15,000 multi-family properties across the Midwest and South and the leadership, including CEO Dennis Barrett, CFO John Mullins and General Counsel Tom Mariani are all white males.

Holland recorded the incident and said the off-duty officer never identified herself. “Honestly, I don’t want to jump to racism. I don’t want to say she just pointed me out because I’m the only Black dude in the pool, but that was the case.”

In the video, Clingerman says the woman was an officer, and Holland responds, “I don’t know her Do you know how many Black people die because of officers ”

Clingerman quips, “Oh shut up.”

Holland was later told by Clingerman that both he and his mom, residents of the community, were banned from using the pool.

Statement from Barrett & Stokely: ” We are disappointed that we weren’t able to handle this situation in a way in which everyone felt respected and understood. We should have communicated with all residents that we would have security on site, who would be asking for proof of residency.”

No complaint has been filed yet to the police so they’re not investigating the off-duty officer in the video.
