Update: White Man Who Assaulted 11-Year-Old Black Girl is Due in Court Next Month

David Steven Bell, 51, is home with his family after punching an 11-year-old Black child in the face this past weekend in an Asheville mall. He was arrested, charged with three counts of assault and released in about a 24-hour period. His court date is Feb. 5.

His Asheville attorney Andy Banzhoff, in the statement issued late Monday, said Bell is in treatment for a traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. Bell felt threatened and regretted using physical force, he said.

Who triggered his PTSD According to Banzhoff, Black children. Specifically, “a large pack of youths.”

“His actions were not motivated by any animus towards the persons in that group. Mr. Bell’s belief is that all persons are created equal and that we are all children of God,” the statement said.

Well, if Bell believes all people are equal, Banzhoff sure doesn’t. When do you hear about a large pack of animals oops I mean children, that are white

“All I am doing at this stage is laying out the facts as we reasonably believe them to be,” he said.

I bet. These are the facts according to Bell’s lawyer:

One female youth shoved Bell in the back. Another “stepped towards Bell in an aggressive manner.”

Despite what the video obviously shows, Banzhoff said, Bell pushed the 11-year-old away and she “lost her balance and fell backwards.”

“She then got to her feet and aggressively charged in the direction of Mr. Bell. As she entered Mr. Bell’s personal space, he struck her with his closed fist.”

“His actions were in an effort to defend himself against the perceived threat from a large pack of youth who had trapped and surrounded him,” Banzhoff said.

He said Bell and his family were praying for healing for “those impacted by this unfortunate incident.”

Bell, here’s some advice: if you were trying to not look like a racist after the video, fire your lawyer.
