12-year-old Shows More Passion in Speech for Immigrant Families Than Trump

A 12-year-old girl delivered a powerful speech at an immigration rally over the weekend. Meanwhile, President Trump on the same day called for undocumented immigrants to be deported “IMMEDIATELY.”

“It makes me sad to know that children can’t be with their parents,” said the young girl, identified as Leah. “I don’t understand why [the government is] being so mean to us children. Don’t they know how much we love our families Don’t they have a family, too Why don’t they care about us children”

Leah, a U.S. citizen, is the daughter of an undocumented immigrant who lives in constant fear that her mother will be ripped away from her. She shared her passionate message at the “Families Belong Together” rally in Washington.

“It’s scary. I can’t sleep, I can’t study, I am stressed,” she said. “I am afraid that they will take my mom away while she is at work, out driving or at home. I don’t understand why this administration won’t support mothers who just want a better life for their children. This needs to change!”

Leah’s mother is a nanny and takes care of children for a living something the United States government hasn’t deemed a priority.

“My mom’s job is very important, unlike other government stuff. She takes care of children as a nanny and makes sure they are healthy and safe. Our government instead harms children and deports parents every day,” Leah said.

Leah has close to 1,000 followers on a newly created Twitter account, @LeahTheActivist. She shared photos and videos from the weekend as well as photos of her meeting her favorite singer, Alicia Keys.

I believe love is without borders!” reads part of her Twitter bio.

On the same day Leah shared her emotional plea, the president’s Twitter fingers were delivering a message of their own.
