Muslims Condemn Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai

Muslims around the world condemned the terrorist attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai, carried out last week by Islamic militants, The Washington Post reports. Muslim leaders and intellectuals also said a stronger effort has to be made to fight religious fanaticism.
"Anyone who slaughters people and screams 'Allahu Akbar' (God is great) is sick and ignorant," said Kazim al-Muqdadi, a political-science professor at Baghdad University.
Inayat Bunglawala, a spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain, said terrorists "bring the entire faith into disrepute."
A total of 188 people died after 10 gunmen stormed several targets, including luxury hotels, a popular café, a Jewish outreach center and the city's main rail station. The resulting siege lasted three days before Indian commandos brought it to an end. The lone surviving suspect in the attacks told Indian police he was a member of the Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
"I think that Muslims should raise their voice against such actions," said Ali Abdel Muhsen, 22, a Muslim engineering student in the West Bank. "They should forge a coalition to fight such phenomena, because it harms them and damages their image."
