Since Barack Obama's historic election as America's first Black president, police across the country have reported racial incidents, including cross burnings, racist vandalism and assault, reports The Associated Press.

A general store in Maine posted a sign that read "Osama Obama Shotgun Pool," inviting customers to bet a dollar on a projected Obama assassination date. Racial slurs and swastikas were spray-painted on cars, houses and sidewalks in Los Angeles. In New York City, a Black teenager was reportedly attacked on Election Day by four white men who shouted "Obama."

There's been a surge in the number of racist incidents since the election, according to Mark Potok, director of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate crimes.

Calling Obama's election the "most profound change in the field of race since the Civil War," William Ferris, senior associate director of the Center for the Study of the American South at the University of North Carolina, said that Obama's victory is shaking "the foundations on which the country has existed for centuries.

"Someone once said racism is like cancer," Ferris told The Associated Press. "It's never totally wiped out; it's in remission."

Obama Win Spurs Racist Incidents Across the Nation

I am reminded of how proud I am to live in America when Nov. 5, 2008, sounded the alarm of a new nation of believers of a true spirit of the face of America. I am not so surprised that we still have a few people left to the ignorance of the beat that Black/AA elected a new president, America did. It is so appalling that some still cannot see beyond what they see. Color has a purpose; it adds to everything, no matter what hue it is; it either makes things lighter or darker. The election of pres. elect Obama has certainly added to the picture for America that looks brighter to include the entire portrait of America and not just a few of its residents. We should not be betrayed by a few ignorant ones and lose focus because America is still the greatest nation on earth and when we learn to honor each other, maybe all of us can finally feel as though we live in a place where we are all celebrated and not tolerated! Racism will not continue to be a distraction in America. The victory is already won and the time has come when we can stand on the fact that the ignorance of others will not make us bitter, rather we will evolve better!
America we did it with joy and pride! And now you know the rest of the story, for real!

Obama Win Spurs Racist Incidents Across the Nation

Why don't the news organizations all over this country publicize the fact that there have already been 5 presidents with Black ancestry?  And, surprise, the country survived!  How would the racists react to that information?
