Founded in 1994, the Institute for Diversity in Health Management is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of its co-founder, the American Hospital Association. The Institute's mission is to increase culturally diverse representation among America's health care executives and to ensure that health care leadership reflects the demographics of the patients that they serve.

Today, the Institute continues to expand opportunities by collaborating with organizations to develop a pipeline of diverse leaders. It also provides cultural competency and diversity management tools to hospitals, health care systems, and organizations, in an effort to enhance the care provided to an increasingly diverse society.
