Last Thursday, California's Supreme Court overturned the state's ban on same-sex marriage, allowing the state's estimated 100,000 LGBT couples and thousands more from other states to marry. And while the impact of the gay-marriage decision on businesses remains to be seen, it was aday filled with emotion.
"It was an exhilarating feeling, that's the best I can describe it," San Francisco mayor and LGBT advocate Gavin Newsom said hours after the decision was announced. "I've been accused of taking this a little too personally, and I accept that critique."
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has vetoed two LGBT-progressive bills in the past, said in a statement that he respected the Supreme Court's decision and "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

The court's decision comes 60 years after the state lifted its ban on interracial marriages and is expected to take effect as early as next month.
