Diversity Strengths: President and CEO Christopher Nassetta oversees all aspects of diversity by chairing the diversity council and appointing its members. He also personally reviews diversity metrics and progress and makes sure the corporate vision statement includes diversity.
The company's management was 44 percent Black, Asian, Latino and Native American, compared with a 25 percent average for the Top 50. Seeking to diversify its management further, 51 percent of those promoted in management were Black, Asian, Latino and Native American, while 53 percent were women. Thirty-four percent of its top 10 percent highest-paid employees were Black, Asian, Latino and Native American, compared with an 18 percent average for the Top 50.
With 20 percent of its operations outside the United States, Hilton has a firm commitment to human rights and global diversity. The company has mandatory diversity training for all its employees worldwide and also prepares employees and their families to work in other countries. Hilton also works to change laws in countries whose values it perceives as oppressive, which only 12 percent of Top 50 companies do.
