Why It's on the Top 50: Capital One has moved up from the 25 Noteworthy Companies list because of improvements in Human Capital and Corporate and Organizational Communications.
Diversity Strengths: The financial-services company's work force is 41 percent Black, Asian, Latino and Native American, compared with 35 percent for the Top 50. That includes 21 percent Blacks, 9 percent Latinos, 8 percent Asians and 1 percent Native Americans. Fifty-four percent of its new hires are Black, Asian, Latino and Native American, compared with a 44 percent average for the Top 50. That includes 28 percent Blacks, 15 percent Latinos, 7 percent Asians and 1 percent Native Americans.
Diversity training is mandatory for all employees and is offered every month. Fifty-four percent of its philanthropic endeavors are spent with nonprofits aimed at traditionally underrepresented groups, compared with a Top 50 average of 29 percent.
