Why It's on the Top 50: Extremely strong Corporate and Organizational Communications propel the bottler to the list, as well as its CEO Commitment.

Diversity Strengths: President and CEO Eric Foss chairs the diversity council and appoints its members and meets regularly with employee-resource groups.

The board of directors is 10 percent Black and 20 percent Latino, as well as 40 percent female. Nationally, boards are 13 percent non-white and 15 percent women. The Top 50 average is 23 percent non-white and 22 percent women.

Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) has an active mentoring program, with 30 percent of employees participating. The company also has first-rate work/life benefits, including a medical center, onsite dry cleaner, credit union and ATM, and a fitness center.

PBG has mandatory diversity training for its entire work force, and it is offered every month.

The company allocates 44 percent of its marketing budget to traditionally underrepresented groups, compared with a Top 50 average of 15 percent.
