| | Why It's on the Top 50: Despite mergers and industry turbulence, AT&T remains a true national diversity leader, especially in Human Capital and Supplier Diversity.
Diversity Strengths: Its board of directors is 38 percent women, compared with a Top 50 average of 22 percent and a national average of 15 percent.

The company's work force is 39 percent non-white: 21 percent Black, 12 percent Latino, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent Native American. But new hires, a strong indicator of progress, are 48 percent non-white: 27 percent Black, 15 percent Latino, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent Native American. AT&T also has unbiased retention of both its work force and its management, meaning employees are retained at equal levels, regardless of race/ethnicity and gender.
AT&T has strong supplier-diversity metrics and gives its MBEs and WBEs training and financial support. And 50 percent of its philanthropic endeavors go to charities affiliated with traditionally underrepresented groups, including Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement; Education First; Latin American Chamber of Commerce; and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering.
Randall L. Stephenson, Chairman and CEO: "In the midst of continuous change, we recognize that our success is directly related to understanding and leveraging the many facets of diversity--in our workplace, the marketplace and our communities."
Cindy Brinkley, Senior Vice President-Talent Development and Chief Diversity Officer: "At AT&T, we track our diversity performance in key areas, and our senior executives communicate the importance of diversity throughout the company.
