Diversity Strengths: CEO Barry Salzberg chairs the internal diversity council and appoints its members. He is involved with several notable nonprofits, including The Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Johnnetta B. Cole Global Diversity & Inclusion Institute. He also ties executive compensation to diversity and personally signs off on it.
Deloitte has an external diversity council, chaired by well-known discrimination attorney Weldon Latham, a contributor to DiversityInc. The firm has strong work/life benefits, metrics and employee-resource groups. Seventy-five percent of its managers participate in the mentoring program, compared with a Top 50 average of 35 percent.
Deloitte has strong employee-resource groups, which it has had for more than 10 years. These include groups for LGBT employees and employees with disabilities.
The results pay off in numbers. Thirty-two percent of its work force and 41 percent of its new hires were Black, Asian, Latino or Native American, demonstrating significant progress.
