Why It's on the Top 50: A frequent Top 50-ranked company, this Big Four accounting firm is especially strong in CEO Commitment, Human Capital, and Corporate and Organizational Communications.

Diversity Strengths: CEO Barry Salzberg chairs the internal diversity council and appoints its members. He is involved with several notable nonprofits, including The Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Johnnetta B. Cole Global Diversity & Inclusion Institute. He also ties executive compensation to diversity and personally signs off on it.

Deloitte has an external diversity council, chaired by well-known discrimination attorney Weldon Latham, a contributor to DiversityInc. The firm has strong work/life benefits, metrics and employee-resource groups. Seventy-five percent of its managers participate in the mentoring program, compared with a Top 50 average of 35 percent.

Deloitte has strong employee-resource groups, which it has had for more than 10 years. These include groups for LGBT employees and employees with disabilities.

The results pay off in numbers. Thirty-two percent of its work force and 41 percent of its new hires were Black, Asian, Latino or Native American, demonstrating significant progress.

Barry Salzberg, Chief Executive Officer: "Building and sustaining an inclusive culture has been critical to Deloitte's growth and will play an important role in our continued success. Clients expect it, new recruits want it and our people demand it. Most importantly, our culture of inclusion has a direct impact on the organization's ability to set the standard of excellence in the marketplace."

Allen Thomas, Chief Diversity Officer and Managing Partner, Partner Services: "Diversity and inclusion is tightly woven into Deloitte's fabric. We've accomplished this by setting a clear and decisive tone at the top and demonstrating leadership's unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive culture that provides opportunities for all of our professionals to succeed. In addition, our active support of Deloitte's Business Resource Groups and their members across the country is a daily display of our commitment to the diversity of our people."
