| | Why It's on the Top 50: Across the board, The Coca-Cola Co. continues its commitment to diversity. After being hit by the largest racial-discrimination lawsuit in U.S. history, the company, led by Chairman and CEO E. Neville Isdell, made a strong and lasting commitment. His successor, Muhtar Kent, shares that commitment.
Diversity Strengths: Coca-Cola's management was 33 percent Black, Latino, Native American and Asian, compared with 25 percent for the Top 50 and 17 percent nationwide, and it was 48 percent women, compared with 45 percent for the Top 50 and 36 percent nationally. Even more impressive was the management-promotion rate -- 40 percent of managers receiving promotions were Black, Latino, Native American and Asian and 56 percent were women. This compares with Top 50 averages of 26 percent and 45 percent, respectively.
The commitment to talent is clear, with strong mentoring and work/life programs. These include a Working Moms Mentoring Circle, where working mothers meet to discuss childcare issues and professional development.
Philanthropy aimed at traditionally underrepresented groups builds community relationships, and Coca-Cola donates 17 percent of its North American philanthropy to Black, Latino, Asian, Native-American, LGBT and disability groups. Eight percent of global philanthropy goes to nonprofit organizations for these groups based in the United States. These organizations include the United Negro College Fund, the American Indian College Fund and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs.
E. Neville Isdell, Chairman and CEO: "Leveraging the diverse people, ideas, talents and capabilities of our organization is integral in achieving sustainable growth in the marketplace. Our collective commitment to diversity creates maximum value for our business, our associates, our partners, and the communities in which we do business."
Steve Bucherati, Chief Diversity Officer: "We recognize that we must have a work force that is rich in diversity in order to both see and seize marketplace opportunities. The powerful connection between diversity in the work force and marketplace opportunities impacts how we operate day-to-day in each of the markets we serve."
