Huckabee: Gay Marriage Equals Bestiality

GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says if we're going to allow men to marry men and women to marry women, we might as well amend the Constitution to allow people to marry animals. In an interview with Steven Waldman, Beliefnet's editor-in-chief, and Dan Gilgoff, Beliefnet's politics editor, the former Arkansas governor said, "The constitution needs to be amended to meet 'God's standards,'" according to Beliefnet. "I think the radical view is to say that we're going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal." Mike Huckabee recently lost the South Carolina GOP primary to contender John McCain. This isn't the first time Huckabee's choice phrasing has gotten him into trouble. On MLK Day, White Supremacists March on Jena

Fifty white supremacists took time to celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday in a less-than-traditional way, with .357 magnum handguns, .22 caliber revolvers and sawed-off shotguns. On Monday, The Nationalist Movement marched through the streets of Jena, La., to denounce the holiday and the six black teenagers known as the Jena 6, who were charged with beating a white classmate, reports The Associated Press. Despite ending two hours earlier than expected, Nationalist Movement spokesperson Richard Barrett deemed the day a success, saying, "We backed down the mayor, backed the committee down," he said. "So the chances are good we'll back the Jena 6 down and Martin Luther King Day down as well." About 100 college-age counter-demonstrators showed up and chanted "No KKK." In September, more than 25,000 people marched in Jena, La., in support of the six black teenagers, alleging the students were victims of an unfair justice department. Tiger Woods: Lynch Comment Had No Ill Intent

Golfer Tiger Woods quieted the rumor wheel Monday in his first public commentary since Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman was suspended last week after suggesting Woods' competitors "lynch him in a back alley" during a television commentary. "It was unfortunate. Kelly and I did speak," said Woods, reports ESPN. "There was no ill intent. In my eyes, it's all said and done." But is it? Golfweek fired senior vice president and editor David Seanor last week over the magazine's Jan. 19 issue, which featured a noose and a cover line that read: "CAUGHT IN A NOOSE: Tilghman slips up, and Golf Channel can't wriggle free." Tilghman is slated to return to the airwaves on Jan. 24 in time for the Buck Invitational. The San Diego event will also mark Woods' 2008 debut.

Oscar Nominees Are In: What About Denzel?

The Oscar nominees were announced early Tuesday morning. Among the other nominees, acclaimed actress Ruby Dee was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in "American Gangster," reports The Associated Press. Javier Bardem was also nominated for his role in "No Country for Old Men." A surprising name left off the list was Denzel Washington, who scored much public attention for his movie "The Great Debaters," which is about Wiley College's polished team of debaters, who in the 1930s amassed a series of victories over white competitors that stunned the Jim Crow South.

First Black Referee in NFL Announced

Mike Carey will become the first Black referee in Super Bowl history, reports The Associated Press. Carey, who has been an official for 18 years, was notified late last week that he would serve at the Feb. 3 Giants-versus-Patriots Super Bowl. Black officials have been increasing in number over the years. This season, there were 26 on the 17 crews, a single-season high, reports The Associated Press.  Last year, the NFL saw its first Super Bowl contest between two Black coaches, from which Tony Dungy emerged with the victory.
