Verizon Foundation is funding a $300,000 grant for The World Institute on Disability and the American Red Cross to create a new national training program for Red Cross staff and volunteers.

The donation will help Red Cross donors and members better assist people with disabilities during major natural disasters. The proposal is in response to Hurricane Katrina, which raised awareness of the necessity of inclusive emergency responses for people with disabilities, older people and low-income families.

Verizon Communications is No. 6 on The 2007 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® list and No. 8 in the Top 10 Companies for Recruitment & Retention,

The AT&T Foundation announced the donation of $50,000 as a partnership agreement with the National Disability Institute (NDI). The contribution will sponsor the 2008 Real Economic (REI) Tour. This donation will help improve NDI's web site and the services provided during the REI Tour.

The tour will include tax-consultation services to people with disabilities in 13 different U.S. cities.

Audio-conference sessions will be held to train and educate local community leaders, partners and volunteers. The REI Tour also gives people with disabilities the opportunity to receive asset-building counseling and free tax preparations.

AT&T is No. 3 on The 2007 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list, No. 1 in the Top 10 Companies for African Americans and No. 3 in the Top 10 Companies for Recruitment & Retention.

Microsoft will donate 50 new Xbox 360 consoles and 200 educational-entertainment programs and games to every community center operated by the nonprofit organization Para los Niños as a contribution to benefit Spanish-speaking and low-income families in Los Angeles and Southern California.

The contribution is made to engage Spanish-speaking families in the usage of Xbox video games, which now include more than 700 bilingual-educational programs available on Xbox Live.

This initiative will help families share and learn with their children while experiencing multicultural programming to educate and entertain.

Macy's will sponsor the Special Olympics through the Macy's holiday program this year, donating $10 for every customer enrolling in Macy's "Thanks for Sharing" program. The contribution will support 10 Special Olympics state programs for the southern region of the United States.

Customers may enroll in the program at the cash registers at any Macy's location. Through this program, Macy's will be supporting thousands of Special Olympic athletes—children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
