Clairesse Jackson has been named chief diversity officer for NCR Corp.
The newly reorganized United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) named Father Allen Figueroa Deck, S.J., the first executive director of the Office for Cultural Diversity. November's strategic reorganization of the USCCB will address the lack of a culturally focused ministry in the church. Father Deck is responsible for meeting the needs of the Latino, black, Asian, Native American and African Catholics, as well as the pastoral care of migrants, refugees and travelers, which serves numerous other communities of Catholics. Paulette Brown, a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge, will serve as the law firm's first chief diversity officer. As co-chair of the nationwide diversity committee, Brown will lead the firm in its engagement in diversity issues and will ensure the hiring and retention of a more diverse legal staff. Danielle Carr has joined the law firm of Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale in the newly created position of director of professional development and inclusion—the first of its kind in the Carr will chair the firm's diversity committee and create practices for inclusion within the company. Prior to this position, Carr was managing director at the largest legal recruiting firm in the country, Major, Lindsey & Africa. Jeremiah DeBerry has joined Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft as the firm's new director of diversity. Before accepting the position, DeBerry founded and was president of the National Attorney of Color Network, a resource for legal employers seeking to establish a diverse work force. He drafted the Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan for Diversity at Thelen Reid & Priest (now Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steinerm) where he was a partner.
AOL has promoted Tiane Mitchell Gordon to senior vice president, office of diversity and inclusion, reporting directly to Chairman and CEO Randy Falco. Her role will be similar to her previous position as vice president of the office of diversity and inclusion, in which she introduced and managed a list of best practices to AOL, including a companywide diversity coaching and training program, a speaker series on diversity in business and society, and employee-resource groups to provide mentoring and support. Outside of AOL, Mitchell Gordon is a motivational speaker. She has worked with AOL for 12 years since joining as director of human resources. Prior to AOL, she worked with Newfield Publications and Aetna Life & Casualty HR departments.
Interim President Linda Denny has officially been named president of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). Denny assumes leadership of the organization that was the first to provide women-owned-and-operated businesses with access as suppliers to major corporations. As interim president, she has already begun to drive corporate membership and revenue growth by enhancing internal and external communications. As president, Denny will continue to manage every aspect of WBENC's operations; such as policymaking, fundraising, corporate membership, and the group's major national programs. She joined WBENC as vice president in 2003, spearheading key initiatives that included the development of an official Code of Ethics and a re-branding of WBENC. She has held senior-management positions with corporations such as ING Insurance Company of America and New York Life Insurance Co., and has been an active member of the advisory board of the IBM-World Bank, Small/Medium Business Growth Project; the Treasurer of the Women's Leadership Board at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; the Board of Directors at the National Women's History Museum; the W/MBE Diversity Committee for the Institute for Supply Management (ISM); Office Depot Women's Advisory Board; and a founding board member of the Association of Women's Business Development Centers.
AT&T has appointed Cathy Coughlin senior executive vice president and global marketing officer. AT&T is No. 3 on The 2007 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® list. Coughlin will oversee AT&T's corporate responsibility initiatives, as well as the company's worldwide brand strategy, communications, events and sponsorships. She is responsible for completing the integration of advertising and communications for wireless and the Southeast. Coughlin has held presidential positions with Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages and SBC Operations. Prior to her global marketing appointment, Coughlin was president and CEO of AT&T Midwest, leading the company's wire-line network sales and customer-service operations in five states. The international management-consulting firm Global Lead recently acquired David Tulin's diversity-based business consultancy, Tulin DiversiTeam Associates. Tulin will move from firm president to a principal at Global Lead. Before integrating into Global Lead, Tulin DiversiTeam Associates was known for work in diversity-council development, e-learning training products, train-the-trainer programs and executive coaching. The company worked internationally with clients in business, government, education and healthcare to advance leadership and talent.
Bank of America California State has named Al Arguello market president for the Arguello's position of market president places him in the role of senior executive for business, civic and philanthropic activities for Bank of America in California's San Bernardino and Riverside counties. He will be charged with strengthening local business communication, growing revenue, improving the customer experience, and creating a greater presence for the bank within the community.
