No. 7: Xerox

Anne Mulcahy
Chairwoman & CEO

Phillip Harlow
Chief Diversity &
Employee Advocacy Officer
Why It's on the Top 50: A longtime national diversity leader, Xerox is particularly strong in the areas of Human Capital and Supplier Diversity.

Description: In addition to copiers, Xerox manufactures printers and scanners and provides software, consulting and document outsourcing.

From Chairwoman and CEO Anne Mulcahy: "Diversity is about more than race and gender. It's about more than numbers. It's about inclusion. Diversity means creating an environment where all employees can grow to their fullest potential."

Diversity Strengths: The company has a strong mentoring program (65 percent of managers participate, compared with a Top 50 average of 31 percent). Employee surveys are mandatory, compared with 30 percent of the Top 50. And the company tracks GLBT suppliers, which only 22 percent of the Top 50 and virtually no other companies nationally do.

Recent Diversity Success: In 2006, Xerox created and instituted a formal set of gender-transition guidelines. These assist employees, managers and human resources when an employee announces the intention to undergo a gender transition.
