Unarmed Latino the Latest Victim of Police Killing

When Pasco, Wash., police shot and killed an unarmed orchard worker from Mexico, it sparked local protests.


But the lack of mainstream media coverage of the Feb. 10 killing of an unarmed Latino has sparked anger amongst many in the Latino community. Many wonder why there wasn’t the same blanket coverage that was seen following the shooting death of Michael Brown and chokehold strangling of Eric Garner, both unarmed Black men killed by police officers.

“When it comes to Latinos, American media still only think of them as immigrants,” said Gustavo Arellano, Editor of the newspaper O.C. Weekly. “They can’t think of them as victims of police brutality or anything else but immigrants.
