ExxonMobil Discriminated Against LGBT Job Candidate

The Illinois Department of Human Rights has found substantial evidence of orientation discrimination at an ExxonMobil facility.

The LGBT advocacy group Freedom to Work filed a complaint with the state agency in 2013 after a round of “employment testing.” Working with the Equal Rights Center, Freedom to Work arranged for two “nearly identical” rsums to be sent to Exxon for an opening at its Patoka, Ill., facility. The candidate with better qualifications indicated she was an LGBT-rights activist; Freedom to Work says Exxon only reached out to the other candidate, three times inviting her to interview.
