TV host Julie Chen says she had plastic surgery to enlarge her “Asian eyes” after being confronted by racism at work.
Chen revealed the surgery, which she had nearly two decades ago, during Wednesday’s episode of The Talk on CBS. “It dates back to when I was 25 years old and I was working as a local news reporter in Dayton, Ohio,” she told her co-hosts and the studio audience. “I wanted to try and get a seat on the anchor desk, so I asked my news director. I said, ‘If on holidays, anchors want to take vacations, can I fill in I don’t care, I’ll work Christmas.’ And he said, ‘You will never be on this anchor desk because you’re Chinese.'”
