Michele C. Meyer-Shipp
Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer
Though some of her law colleagues wondered why she left a burgeoning legal career to become a diversity executive, the decision was easy, Michele C. Meyer-Shipp told DiversityInc. She was immediately drawn to Prudential’s track record in diversity. “I felt their commitment to D&I was very real,” Meyer-Shipp said. And her interest in litigation was waning. “I’m a people person and I wanted to be proactive.”
Meyer-Shipp joined Prudential in April 2010 as Vice President and Counsel in the Employment and Labor Law Group. Previously, she served as General Counsel of the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor and led the diversity-and-inclusion efforts of the Global Wealth Management division at Merrill Lynch.
She also served as Director of New Jersey’s Division of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action. She began her career in private practice at the law firms of Collier, Jacob & Mills and Lowenstein Sandler. She graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1995 and later taught there as an adjunct professor.
She is a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, Minority Corporate Counsel Association, Corporate Counsel Women of Color, National Employment Law Council and the Society for Human Resource Management.
