Diversity Leadership: Karin Sarratt, WellPoint

Karin Sarratt joined WellPoint in 2012. In addition to leading WellPoint’s talent management, leadership development, succession planning, recruiting and retention, she also directs all aspects of diversity-and-inclusion management and workforce-culture strategies for the organization. This includes overseeing the company’s eight resource groups, which are tracked and reported annually. She also presents diversity initiatives to WellPoint’s board of directors, nearly half of whom are women.

“Our strong focus on diversity helps the company improve healthcare value and attain our mission of improving the lives of the people we serve and the health of our communities,” Sarratt said in a press release.

Prior to joining WellPoint, Sarratt spent almost 15 years at International Paper. Most recently, she was based in Belgium as Director of Human Resources for Europe, Middle East and Africa, managing more than 20,000 employees. She has also worked for the City of Greenville, S.C., as an EEO Administrator and Trainer.

Sarratt has a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and a master’s degree from Clemson University. She is a member of the board of directors of Indiana Sports Corp.
