Having a sister with Down syndrome gave Grace Figueredo perspective on the importance of diversity. “I grew up learning how to care for someone with a disability and learning what it is to be different,” she told DiversityInc.

Figueredo manages Aetna’s 15 resource groups, which serve nearly a third of the insurer’s employees. She is also helping Aetna manage reforms associated with the passage of the Affordable Care Act. In 2013, the company launched its first Resource Group Leadership Council.

Prior to joining Aetna, Figueredo served as Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at The Hartford and Director of Workforce Diversity at United Technologies.

She is a member of the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund and a 2011 recipient of a Visionary Leaders Circle Award from Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. Raised in New York City, she has a bachelor’s degree from Queens College and a master’s degree from the University of Hartford.
