WellPoint Joins 100,000 Jobs Mission Pledging to Hire Veterans

Indianapolis April 11, 2012 WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it has joined the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of major corporations that have jointly committed to hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020. As the first health benefits company to join the coalition, WellPoint has made a commitment to hiring veterans and to helping those returning to civilian life find employment and transition into the next phase of their lives. The jobless rate for post-9/11 veterans was 12.1 percent in 2011. As of March, 2012, 834,000 veterans remain unemployed.

Enlisting in the 100,000 Jobs Mission advances WellPoint’s objective of assisting military veterans. In fact, the company has been named to G.I. Jobs magazine’s Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list for the past three years. The Veterans’ Organization of WellPoint (VOW) employee resource group plays a valuable role in building a workplace culture that embraces employees and family members who have military experience. The company donates $50,000 annually to the USO, and WellPoint employees put together care packages for deployed military personnel.
