Springfield NAACP Receives Donation from Ameren Illinois

Springfield, Ill (Aug. 19, 2013) The Springfield National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) received a $4,000 grant from Ameren Illinois that will be used to sponsor the organization’s trip to Washington, DC for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

Teresa Haley, president, Springfield NAACP, said almost 50 people will make the journey to Washington, DC to remember and celebrate the pivotal point in the Civil Rights Movement.

“Many of us remember hearing our parents and grandparents talk about being at the March on Washington in 1963. We are excited to participate in the historical 50th anniversary march and become part of this history as well,” Haley said. “Around 20 youth will be with us so we can expose them to a part of history and show them positive ways to be involved. It will be an overwhelming and joyous experience that would not have been possible without the support from Ameren Illinois.”
