I am in several ways in a small minority, and they are ways that don't show, usually. To a casual observer, I'm a middle-aged white male professional. Yet I only completed college a year ago, having lost decades to untreated, disabling conditions. As a result, I am without retirement savings, and without a family, even though I've wanted to be a husband and father since I was four years old.
My autism is so mild that people tend to think "He must know better; he's just a jerk who doesn't care," because I'm the last one to know when I've said or done the wrong thing, socially.

So I'm grateful to have any job at all, let alone one in my field, doing work I enjoy, with people with whom working is a pleasure. My experiences have hopefully made me sensitive enough to the perspectives of others unlike myself that I can be of some help to them.

I totally agree with PWC Chairman Moritz. I am a minority myself from Ghana, Africa, well educated and quite brilliant with an MBA degree. I also speak English very well since Ghana is officially an English speaking country. I have also traveled very extensively throughout Africa, Western Europe, Asia, North and South America, and received my education and training in Ghana, England, Canada, and the United States. Yet, I am also viewed as a minority in America because I was not born in the United States. I am far better educated than most of my American colleagues and understand the importance of diversity as an excellent tool for growth and success. I am culturally balanced and speak many foreign languages - qualities that are usually insignificant in corporate America. In the era of global economy, there are pools of talents from individuals who may not speak, sound, look, or think like us. To be successful as a competitve company, diversity must be incorporated in everything we do.
