Learn Diversity 101 Basics

“The Essentials of Diversity-Management Best Practices: From EEO to Effective Diversity Management” will be the topic of DiversityInc’s March 10 event in Washington, D.C. This event is aimed at federal agencies and corporations in the early stages of diversity management. Chief diversity officers and experts from The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® will present their best practices. To attend the event, click here. 

This event will be preceded on March 9 by DiversityInc’s global corporate-diversity day, which is intended for senior corporate and government officials. And on the evening of March 9, The 2010 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity will be unveiled at a dinner.

The March 10 event will begin with introductory remarks by DiversityInc CEO Luke Visconti, who will discuss the real meaning of diversity management. The morning keynote on the intersection of diversity and leadership will be delivered by Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations. He will be followed by Capt. Ken Barrett, head of the Navy’s Diversity Directorate, who will explain how affirmative action and EEO led to real diversity management.

Corporate diversity leaders will then give how-to’s on their areas of expertise. Alicia Petross, diversity team talent manager at Target, one of DiversityInc’s 25 Noteworthy Companies, will explore best practices to recruit from traditionally underrepresented groups. Cindy Brinkley, senior vice president and chief diversity officer at AT&T, No. 2 in the 2009 DiversityInc Top 50, will analyze retention and talent-development strategies.

Kathy Hannan, national managing partner, corporate social responsibility and diversity at KPMG, No. 21 in the 2009 DiversityInc Top 50, will explain mentoring do’s and don’ts. David Casey, a former Marine who now is vice president and diversity officer at CVS Caremark, will discuss the value of employee-resource groups.

LaMae Allen deJongh, managing director of U.S. human capital & diversity at Accenture, No. 23 in the 2009 DiversityInc Top 50, will give the basics of diversity training.

Jim Sinocchi, director of workforce communications for IBM, No. 10 in the 2009 DiversityInc Top 50, will talk about effective diversity branding, and how crucial it is to recruitment, retention, talent development, supplier diversity and customer/client relations.

Glenn M. Winfree, director of diversity at Aetna, No. 48 in the 2009 DiversityInc Top 50, will explore how his company holds managers accountable for diversity performance, including performance evaluations. And Bill Hartwig, vice president, global supplier relations and international procurement for Marriott International, No. 4 in the DiversityInc Top 50, will give a talk on Supplier Diversity 101.
