A big roadblock comes at the beginning after injury or disease stops us mid career .
State Voc Rehab discriminates and there is no legal advocacy to correct.

Most of us don't want to be limited to programs to be employed by low paying non profits like independent living centers and regional centers or state voc rehab.

This limits us to working within a closed community and helps keep the move to private employment barriers in place.

It would be great if people with above average IQ and disabilities could access an on the job professional level training that would also result in a masters degree.

There is what I called "hidden handicaps". I am ADD and employers when they find out you have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or figure out your "handicap" the employer treats you as if it is catching and gets rid of you as soon as possible. The doctor who first diagnosed me suggested I tell my employer so they could make accommodations for me like letting me work flex time. As soon as I told my employer instead of doing the right thing they started documenting my "errors" and made life difficult for me hoping I would quit. When I did not comply, they had a "staff cutback" and promised to help me find employment in other departments of the company. They not only lied but told prospective employers about my ADD. It is extremely hard and expensive to sue for damages so they got away with it. Even the fact that I am over 65 and they may guilty of age discrimination is hard to prove.

As an AKA for 20 years, the reality of working in my choose career has only been limited by the safety issues associated with telecommunications. Climbing ceritifcation is the only thing lost in my 26 year career. The amazing thing is very seldom do people with disabilities get asked directly about their work experiences. Often a percentage represents people, How many people are represented by 15.2%? The impact, good or bad, should be identified by how many people not a decimal point.
