The birth of the Republican Party was fueled by their drive for the abolition of slavery. But it seems that even for those who wanted to abolish slavery there was the shared belief that kidnapped Africans were really not quite equal. When faced with reconstruction, industrialization and urban development race again became the wedge that promoted a shared belief among the majority of European Americans: equality must be weighted towards whiteness and retained by patriarchy.
Democrats are not that different from Republicans today. Faith in capitalism and its nefarious fruits still matters more than human rights, fairness and justice for all.
Who cares if Republicans cling to being the party for “Whites?” What matters more is what the emerging demographic chooses to do with their emerging political power. Will they join oppressors because that is what they have known? Or will they create a revolution that truly swings the political pendulum towards what most of us long for, a fair shot at the American myth of fairness in opportunities that will lead to our deepest dreams.

Black and white people wanting to get married. Gay wanting to get married, people wanting to get on with their lives. There is no more need for the racism. They way the politicians talk, make people sick. They things they say in the public, I have to wonder if they think they are in their toilets! They will have to rebuild that party from the grown up, by throwing out those old men, and start putting in younger men with new minds. They need to stop listening to racist news station, and commentators, who talk things the way how they would want it to go.
