I don't think a name change will do it. I've been at it for 30 years; others longer. Let's continue to have straight talk, and look beyond disability. My greatest accomplishments in life will not be how I survived disability, but what I contributed to my family, and my services as a global citizen. -- Jim Sinocchi

There is a definite difference in the outcomes of those who have family or are part of the better lobbied group(s) of disabled or for those that have their own adequate income and supports. To have an employer like IBM who is supportive is wonderful and life changing.

The reality for many people who could but for .. is they have not enough income or resources to either have med needs met a computer and long distance and eat well all at the same time and consistently.

As a group we do need successful more able- disabled professionals to help us find each other and maintain contact and work on issues that effect us. Mentors.

When free advocates are unskilled to fight appeals vs a govt agency or housing or sheller or other for the basics-that also closes doors.

When there are separate funding streams and even a local commercial that says hire people who are dev delayed , see this guy requires no accommodations, I cringe. That helps maintain that its ok not to make any and explains the divided strategy of many of the support services.

Many higher IQ people who languish in poverty and despair on the dole , with a hand up could be instead valuable employees and community members. As a society we all pay a price for not developing talent in what ever condition it is found.

Thank you , Jim, for being a shining example of what, with the right resources and supports, can be done to excel in all areas of life no matter the challenges.
