Deborah DeHaas admires the tenacity her mother showed as the only female accounting major at her university. “[The professor] figured it was just a matter of time before she’d quit—which, of course, she never did,” DeHaas said. Her mother went on to become the first woman on the city council of her hometown in Pennsylvania. “She taught me that there were no barriers to achieving what I wanted.”
DeHaas followed in her mother’s footsteps and became a certified public accountant herself. In addition to her role as Chief Inclusion Officer, DeHaas is Managing Partner for the Central Region, leads Deloitte’s Women’s Initiative (WIN), and serves as a Vice Chairman of Deloitte’s board of directors. She is also a lead client service partner for several of the firm’s largest clients.
DeHaas started her career at accounting firm Arthur Anderson, making partner and then leading the Risk practice for several years. She later became Managing Partner of the firm’s Chicago office and then led the Assurance practice for the Central Region.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in management science and accounting from Duke University. Extremely active in the local community, DeHaas is a member of the board of directors of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and World Business Chicago, and serves on the board of trustees of Northwestern University and the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago. She is also a member of The Chicago Network, which promotes the advancement of women leaders, and of the Steering Committee of the Center for Executive Women at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
DeHaas lives in Chicago with her husband and is a self-proclaimed “soccer mom” to her three sons.
