Executive Vice President,
Chief Human Resources Officer and
Chief Diversity Executive
From his background in human resources, David Rodriguez believes that happy employees lead to satisfied customers. “We strive to create an inclusive environment where the talents and unique ideas of 300,000 associates at our properties worldwide can flourish,” Rodriguez says on Marriott’s website. “When our associates feel respected and valued, we know that they’ll make our guests, suppliers, owners and franchisees feel the same way, too. This is more than a philosophy—it’s a strategy that works.”
Rodriguez sits on Marriott’s Committee for Excellence, which focuses on diversity and inclusion. “The differences our associates bring to Marriott contribute to the greatness of our organization and enable us to be more innovative in our approach and more responsive to those we serve,” he said in 2012 when Marriott was named the DiversityInc’s Top Company for Supplier Diversity.
He joined Marriott as Senior Vice President of Staffing and Development in 1998 and was appointed Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Marriott Lodging in 2003. He has also worked at Citicorp and Avon.
Rodriguez received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from New York University. He sits on the board of the Human Resources Policy Association and is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association.
