Why It’s on the List
Capital One’s efforts to create an increasingly inclusive corporate climate have been among the most innovative and consistent we have seen. For this reason, Capital One presented its Barriers to Greatness program at our first Innovation Fest! To see the video of that presentation, visit www.DiversityInc.com/innovationfest. The bank has long been a pioneer in flexible workplace options. Capital One also has a first-rate mentoring program, with 34 percent of its managers participating and such programs as virtual mentoring, group mentoring, special mentoring for new hires, line-of-business mentoring, a Future Leaders Forum, and the Career Development Center Associate Networks aimed at Black, Asian, Latino, LGBT, female and former military employees. The top three levels of executives in the company are part of the formal mentoring program. Capital One has 11 resource groups, used for recruitment, talent development, marketplace connections and diversity training. An example is the Magellan Career Development Program for Mid-Level Managers, a six-month training/educational module supported by the African American Network leaders. The company connects to the marketplace through these groups and also through its remarkable philanthropy, with 63 percent of its philanthropic endeavors aimed at multicultural nonprofits. For example, the Capital One Financial Scholars Program with the UNCF reaches more than 50 historically Black colleges and universities. |
