No. 36: Booz Allen Hamilton

Why It’s on the List
Booz Allen Hamilton makes the list for the second year in a row. Chairman and CEO Dr. Ralph W. Shrader personally signs off on executive compensation tied to diversity and reviews diversity metrics and progress. Shrader also meets with the company’s resource groups twice a year. The company’s executive diversity council meets on a monthly basis and establishes and signs off on diversity goals and metrics. The top three levels of management participate in Booz Allen Hamilton’s cross-cultural mentoring program. Mentors are trained in cultural awareness. There are measurable goals for assessing the success of the mentoring program. Mentoring relationships are formally evaluated yearly, and the benefits of joining are communicated internally. The program is company-wide, and there is formal follow-up. Booz Allen Hamilton uses its 14 resource groups to identify and nurture management talent. The groups are used in mentoring and are active in the on-boarding process for new employees. Senior executives are members of each group, and 57 percent of all employees participate in the groups. The resource groups also assist with diversity-training initiatives. The groups also support the firm-wide learning and development offerings. Its LGBT resource group worked closely with the strategy and organizational team to assess the change management strategy for the Armed Forces as a response to the repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. |
