The Chief of Staff Needs to Get Off His Privileged Racist Ass and Do Some Homework

And his draft-dodging boss needs to put his juvenile visions of military dictatorship out of his head.

There have been many disturbing days over the past year. I found yesterday to be particularly troubling. Chief of Staff John Kelly called people who had not already signed up for DACA to be “too lazy to get off their asses.”

Our journalist, Kaitlyn D’Onofrio, wrote a very good story about this.

I was emotionally rocked to learn from her article that it costs $495 to sign up for DACA. I didn’t know.

I think there are times in most people’s lives where $495 is simply a bridge too far. Can you imagine being in another country, brought there as a child, without documents? What kind of job would you have? How much money would you have in your pocket? Not being able to open a bank account — having to hide your little savings someplace while you work at your menial job. $495 is a HUGE amount of money.

I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know about the application fee. The chief of staff for the president of the United States has no excuse, especially when he’s going to be a racist and demean an entire group of people that lives among us. There are days when I feel embarrassed to be an American.

Aside from this debacle yesterday, draft-dodging Trump also told our military he wants a grand military parade. (Trump is also known as Cadet Bone Spurs, a great nickname coined by former assault helicopter pilot Sen. Tammy Duckworth.)

The founders of this country were against a standing army — James Madison: “A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.”

This was on his mind because our country had just beaten the global superpower (England). Here is our Third Amendment: “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.”

Why was this the Third Amendment? The British would kick your door in, throw you out on the street and put their troops in your house, anytime they felt like it.

I have served our military, in several capacities, for most of my adult life. I think a military parade in Washington, other than to celebrate the end of a war, is anti-American; Trump is either talking out of ignorance or simply lying about the strength of our military. At one-third the size it currently is, it would still be the planet’s largest military by far. His focus on nuclear weapons makes me believe that unilateral nuclear disarmament is the only safe way for our planet to proceed.

If Donald J. Trump doesn’t make you a believer in that philosophy, you’re not paying attention. Most people aren’t. Let’s face it, we can’t intimidate a backwards hermitage nation with 1/1200th of our GDP. Something is seriously wrong with our leadership and how we’re spending money.

  • When I read that the orange menace wanted a military parade, my skin crawled. How many more fascist behaviors does this clown need to exhibit before he’s stopped?! Our system of checks and balances is badly broken and I’m in fear for this country.

  • When Kelly assumed his current position, the hope was that he might help mold Trump into someone “more Presidential.” Apparently, Kelly has lost that battle of wills and decided, “if you can’t lick ’em, join ’em.”

  • CHARITY DELL

I REFUSE to bow down to the Racist Hitler gods who need worship processions–euphemistically termed
“military parades.” When is Congress going to WAKE UP and stop permitting a Constitutional Democracy
to slide into an Alt-White Fascist State ruled by the UNEDUCATED?

  • The orange draft dodging menace wants a military parade. The last one was in 1991 after Desert Storm. When is someone with a backbone in Washington going to tackle and muzzle this immature jackass? When are the deplorables going to wake up? Who the eff is paying for this sh*t? Don’t make me say it.

    • And when he starts the inevitable war this fall, it will be the children of his voters that will be ground to mush for no good reason (like Iraq and Afghanistan). The dopes will walk around saying “thank you for your service” to each other as a Band-Aid over the gaping wound in their hearts.

Just remember, the draft dodger’s first choice to run the Veterans Administration was Sarah Palin. You could not spit large enough to match that level of arrogant distain.

  • Well for the Dems, I thought $1,000 or $2,000 was “crumbs” according to Pelosi so $495 should be nothing then. Luke, It’s interesting that you make this argument against the application fee, yet the left claims that immigrants contribute greatly to the economy so there’s a hole in your argument.

The application fee should be struck down though and a pathway to citizenship established as long as Trump gets funding for the wall and border security.

    • Pelosi is incompetent and that has NOTHING to do with $495 being an usurious and immoral fee to be charging people under your thumb. Keep in mind that these DREAMERS are the children of people allowed to come here to work in the huge underclass of workers without rights – a system of immoral oppression that lasted decades in this country. Keep in mind that these undocumented workers paid billions into social security with no corresponding benefits to pay. Have it in your heart to be charitable, it’s what Jerry Falwell Jr. would want you to do (if the DREAMERS were white).

      • Dear Luke; It’s totally appropriate to criticize Pelosi on the basis of her performance, as you have and do. However, I do hope you will also acknowledge her extraordinary feat of speaking for over 8 hours yesterday, without a break, standing in 4-inch stiletto high heels, at 77 years of age, on behalf of the Dreamers. I’m a little younger, and there’s no way I could do that; most people couldn’t. It would be a remarkable achievement for anyone, regardless of their age. It’s fair game to attack someone’s ideas, policies, practices, etc., as being mired in the past. However, it is not acceptable to do so because of their age. We seniors birthed the Counterculture, stopped a war that claimed far too many of our generation and have contributed in so many other ways. We have earned our gray — and/or thinning — hair, wrinkles and other badges of aging. We also retain the right of every human: to be approached with dignity and respect.

        • I understand what you’re saying and I struggled with the story. In the end I decided not to cover it at all. Her performance yesterday was remarkable, but accomplished nothing. It appears a deal has been cut to avoid a government shut down. Pelosi and Schumer got rolled by the failed casino/steak/university operator the last time and they’ll get rolled this time. Consider this: the porn star did better. I’ll bet the republicans hold onto the house in November.

          • Sad, but yes at this point I do agree that the republicans will hold onto to the house. The master of distraction in the White House has shifted much of the focus to BS, rather than what the EPA, OMB, etc.. are doing which is really where a lot of the focus should be.

          • Trump’s approval numbers jumped after his state of the union address. IMO, that shows the democrats have made zero impact on American opinion. This is how they lost the presidential election. They’re breathing their own exhaust, just like when they convinced themselves that Hillary was the most qualified candidate ever.

Hillary is a loser. She lost to a BLACK first term junior senator. 30% of Americans wouldn’t vote for a Black person if they were pooping gold doubloons in their living room. Even with that headstart, she lost. Then she lost to Bernie (but stole it back with the superdelegate nonsense). Then she lost to a failed casino/steak/university operator.

The democrats keep Pelosi and Schumer around, even with their stench of looser thinking. In the most recent government shutdown, they got rolled by a guy so dumb he paid a porn star to be quiet years after she already talked about their affair! And they’re about to get rolled again.

The democrats shoot themselves in the foot until the gun is empty, then they reload and start shooting again.

  • Weekday trump ain’t –

    Bobby Kennedy:
“You can use your enormous privilege and opportunity to seek purely private pleasure and gain. But history will judge you, and, as the years pass, you will ultimately judge yourself, on the extent to which you have used your gifts to enrich the lives of your fellow man.”

  • Lets be honest; we have a racist President, a racist Chief of Staff, and countless people in the cabinet that are racist…and a Token Black head of housing. I’m not surprised that a racist retired general showed his true self. Both T-rump and “General Racist Ass” need to go. Hopefully, this time when it is time to vote, people don’t stay home but go vote, and vote Democratic.

  • After reading thoughts that the republicans will most likely retain majority in the house,I think that the democrats need to face some home truths, number one being that they are out of touch with the younger generation. Bernie, even though he is as old as Methuselah, resonates with millenials.Get rid of old Nancy and Chuck. Reward the young up and coming members like Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, and Tammy Duckworth. Grass roots workers pulled some stunning upsets in state elections- reach out to these organizations. Get back to on the attack against 45- he gives you such good fodder, but you guys don’t take advantage- you are tooooo nice. go for the jugular- what have you got to lose? Military parade- who is he -Mussolini? New ideas- I did say Bernie is popular becuz he thinks outside of the box. Economics- young people today can’t move out of their parents house around my area-the northeast- becuz of rents, jobs not paying enough,, student loan debt, etc. New York governor Cuomo has addressed some of this with his free college tuition, a idea backed by Bernie for students and families at a certain income level. Also, some of these legislators are on their 10th, 11th, term. If we can have term limits on presidents, the senate and house need them also. New ideas come from new voices. These people only do enough to keep their jobs. The only thing that sustains me is the fact that more people in this country voted for Hillary, no matter what you think of her, than trump. The electoral college is an old failing mechanism that needs to be retired. One person, one vote. Its like a ball game where the team that scored more runs lose becuz they didn’t score their runs in the correct inning. It must go.
